Based on the idea of the purpose of education and how it prepares students for life, this work starts with a stately fanfare style opening. The composition has contrasting melodies and rich harmonies. 1st trumpet's highest notes is a C. Only the 1st clarinet plays over the break. Ranges are mostly in a grade 1 to 1 1/2 level. The rhythms are grade 2 level only.
